Visitors may end up wet at Songkran but after the long Siberian winter it is the perfect time for many to warm up on a Thai holiday.

Some 3.09 million tourists poured in to the kingdom  last month for  Songkran, with Russians in fourth place.

Many Russians choosing Thailand are from Siberia or the Russian Far East.

Thailand’s Tourism and Sports Ministry permanent secretary Pongpanu Svetarundra said there was a 9.4% increase on 2017.

Spending was 12.7% up with Russians in second place, said the official.
