Little Anya Ustinova, born in Krasnoyarsk, is already a one in a million child

She will be forever famous in this Siberian city, though it will be a few years before she understands exactly why.

Anya is the one millionth resident of Krasnoyarsk, the 13th Russian city to reach this key milestone on April, 10, 2012.

'I just wanted my child to be healthy. That's all,' says her mother Inna, 25, a policewoman who admitted all the same that she was 'happy and excited' about her baby's fame.

Reaching the million mark delighted city officials and acting mayor Edham Akbulatov marked the occasion by presenting the proud parents with vouchers to buy baby clothes and household goods worth R200,000. A local building company also gave the family with a new apartment in a fashionable residential district.

'Construction of the block will be completed before the end of the year, and the girl's family will be able to move in then and have a house-warming party', said Olga Shidlova, a spokeswoman for the company 'SM City'. 

Anya's father Vladimir, an engineer, was quoted saying: 'Inna and I are natives of this city and we'd like to make sure that our daughter also loves it and remains here as a grown-up.' He added: 'More than anything, I think about my family. This news concerns me the least. I didn't expect my child to become the millionth citizen, and didn't seek it. What can I say — it's our destiny!'

The census of 2010 showed the Kransoyarsk, on the Yenisei River, had reached 975,000. Statisticians had forecast it would go over the one million landmark in April.

The news comes amid Kremlin concern over Russia's demographic situation with president-elect Vladimir Putin stressing the need to boost the country's population, which has declined in the years since the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Kransnoyarsk is Siberia's third most populous city, after Novosibirsk and Omsk.
