The skier dressed as an angel set himself on fire on slopes of Sheregesh snow resort in Kemerovo region during an annual skiing and snowboarding festival.
He competed for the title of the best rider in the Pool and Ride contest, where all participants had to wear costumes and perform the most effective jump from a trampoline into a swimming pool.
On the springboard, the rider poured his white feathered costume with inflammable liquid and set it on fire before ending up in a freezing pool.
Covered in flames that were still visible underwater, he was dubbed 'The Burning Angel'.
His costume was completely destroyed by fire.
The rider managed to get out of the pool by himself, and was taken away by an ambulance.
He was reported to have second degree burns on his back and arms.

It took Anton two weeks to make the burning angel costume.
One of the Pool and Ride contest organisers said: 'We had a week of rotten weather before the competition, with strong winds, snowstorms and weather at a steady minus 19C.
'We had to keep breaking ice in the pool, it was so cold.
'We had an extreme competitions professional from St Petersburg, who said this was the hardest event he had done during the last ten years.'
